gedan - At a distance partners raise from seigan to jodan and back to waki-no-kamae. This is done in unison, with nage initiating the movement. Partners approach until they are in bokken maai, at this point they must be in left hanmi. Uke steps to forward right hanmi and strikes jodan. Nage steps back to right hanmi, just off line, and replies with kiri otoshi.

details: Nage's posture must be forward even though he/she is stepping backward. Nage's left side must be pulled back, just out of the line of attack, including the left foot. Nage's weight should be on their right foot so that their center does not have to retreat significantly.
